The definition

Vibe coding is the practice of building software by describing what you want to AI in natural language, instead of writing code line-by-line. You type: 'a landing page for my dog-walking business with a booking form'. The AI generates the entire project. You preview, request changes in plain English, and ship.

Why it matters in 2026

A non-developer with strong product judgment can now ship a working web app in 2-8 hours — work that previously needed a developer and 2-4 weeks. This shifts the bottleneck from code skill to product judgment, sales, and distribution. The people making money are the ones who pair product instincts with vibe coding tools.

What vibe coding is NOT

It's not magic. The first output is usually 80% right and needs 30 minutes of iteration. It's not free — most tools cost $20-$50/month. It's not a path to building Stripe in a weekend — complex multi-user products still need real engineers. And it won't make you money without you finding actual users or clients.
